Firewall Audit

A firewall is an extremely important component of an overall network security strategy, providing a primary perimeter defence. However, firewalls are only technology tools and the level of security offered is only as strong as the configuration.

Experience has shown MIS CDS that the level of security of firewalls degrades over time, as software levels become outdated, ad-hoc changes are implemented, and firewall custodians change. The overall level of security of a firewall is dependant on a number of factors including; the underlying operating system, software configuration, global policy settings and finally the firewall rulebase.

MIS CDS has developed a rigorous methodology involving an in depth evaluation of all these factors, comparing revision levels with known vulnerabilities, the rulebase with security policy requirements, and the configuration with best practice guidelines.
