Agenda:

11am – Introductions

11.15am – How to say ‘YES’ to your Business (ANY ANY ALLOW)

Over the past 10 years IT security has involved some very clever people finding more innovative ways of saying no. Saying no to users, management and IT departments. It is no surprise then that for a lot of organisations the IT security department is seen as an inhibitor to business.

More recently there has been a sea of changes in attitudes both within IT and security with organisations recognising that IT security need to become a business enabler a means for saying yes.

This presentation examines the shift from nay saying to becoming yes men and how IT security departments can use this opportunity to demonstrate their true value to the business by embracing emerging technologies like cloud, web 2.0, multiple device support in effect allowing people to work at the office as you work at home.

This presentation will examine the following areas:

  • The shift of power to users
  • How digital natives operate and how we either fear or embrace them
  • Security strategies for embracing web 2.0, cloud computing and any device support

This presentation also seeks to lay the foundation for a fresh approach to security within organisations, an approach that MIS believe to be imperative for business to survive and prosper within the new digital age.

12.15pm – David Aaronovitch

David is one of the best-known journalists and current affairs broadcasters in the UK, winning several national awards, and has worked for ITV, the BBC, C4, C5, The pendent, The Guardian, The Observer and The Times.

David appears regularly on Any Questions and Question Time.  David was the interviewer and executive producer on the major BBC1 series, The Blair Year, which involved eight hours spent interviewing Tony Blair in front of the cameras, and several off-the-record meetings with Mr Blair, both before and after his departure. In the process of making these programmes David also talked to and interviewed leading international figures such as President George W. Bush and Kofi Annan as well as a wide range of former Cabinet Ministers, top civil servants and ambassadors.  David’s fascination with some of the more arcane aspects of public life and debate has lead to Voodoo Histories, his latest book on the impact of conspiracy theories. In the book he carefully probes and explodes a dozen of the major conspiracy theories of the modern era. The book looks at why our age is obsessed by the idea of conspiracy, asks why quality newspapers and series TV channels are prepared to give these theories credence, and outlines his argument for a true scepticism: one based on a thorough knowledge of history and a strong dose of common sense.
